Men’s tennis leads four SEC teams in ITA top 10
Coming off its second straight national championship, the Georgia men’s tennis team doesn’t have far to climb to reclaim the No. 1 spot.
The first Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings check the Bulldogs in at No. 3. Georgia as the highest ranked SEC team, but are joined by Tennessee, Florida and Ole Miss in the top 10.
In the singles rankings, junior Nate Schnugg came in at No. 18 and Jamie Hunt was placed at No. 35. Together as a doubles team, the duo is ranked No. 40.
Women’s tennis crack preseason top 10
If the expectations for the Georgia women’s tennis team weren’t high already, the ITA’s rankings sure didn’t quell the hopes of postseason success.
According to the first women’s team rankings, the Bulldogs will open the season No. 6 in the nation.
“It’s a great start. We’re really excited about it,” head coach Jeff Wallace said. “But, we realize we have a lot of work to do.”
In singles, freshman Chelsey Gullickson is ranked No. 7 for the Bulldogs after her sizzling 14-4 start in fall action.
Fellow freshman Nadja Gilchrist earned the No. 44 ranking while junior Yvette Hyndman checks in at No. 100. Senior Monika Dancevic is ranked No. 101 and junior Naoko Ueshima is No. 123.
