Ole Miss upstages Lady Bulldogs
For only the fifth time in coach Andy Landers’ career, the Georgia Lady Bulldogs have suffered a three-game losing streak.
After losing to Xavier and Virginia, Ole Miss beat Georgia 62-54 in Oxford Thursday night.
Coming into its first conference road contest against Ole Miss, the Lady Bulldogs knew that rebounding the basketball would be critical.
However, the Lady Rebels outrebounded Georgia 38-31, as Ole Miss also notched 17 offensive rebounds.
The Lady Bulldogs jumped out to a 16-8 lead at the 12:37 mark with an Ashley Houts layup. But missed layups and poor defensive rebounding enabled Ole Miss to finish the first half with a 30-28 lead.
Georgia tied the score at 43 with 9:10 left on a Porsha Phillips layup, but Ole Miss’ Bianca Thomas hit two timely 3-point shots to give the Lady Rebels the lead for good.
Thomas led the way for the Lady Rebels with 19 points, a big step up from her season average of 12.8.
Angel Robinson and Phillips led the Lady Dogs’ scoring efforts with 15 and 10 points, respectively.
