The Georgia men’s basketball team gave the No. 25 Tennessee Volunteers its best, but it simply wasn’t enough.

The Dogs (9-7, 0-1 Southeastern Conference) held the lead for much of the second half, before succumbing to the Volunteers (10-4, 1-0) 86-77.

After Albert Jackson let the ball slip through his fingers with 2:54 remaining, the Vols went on an 11-0 run to put the game out of reach before a late 3-pointer from Ricky McPhee.

Similarly to losses against Missouri and Georgia Tech, the Dogs struggled to rebound the ball, especially on offense and couldn’t keep Tennessee from scoring in the paint.

The Vols outscored Georgia 21-10 on second chance points and 51-24 on points in the paint.

“We have some things we really need to correct,” Georgia head coach Dennis Felton said.

Terrance Woodbury (18 points), Trey Thompkins (14 points) and Dustin Ware (11 points) lead the Dogs offensively.
