JAPANESE SHOWDOWN
INOKO
Since hibachi style restaurants are few and far between in the Athens area, the competition for Japanese cuisine is bleak. However, Inoko graces its customers with both hibachi dishes as well as a modest sushi menu. A great place to come with a group of friends for some light hearted entertainment or even to grab a quick sushi roll, Inoko encompasses most of contemporary Japanese eats. While their college special runs from Sunday to Thursday, the restaurant is only open for dinner (except Sunday lunch), which can prove to be a turn-off for many college students. And If you are in the mood for a long relaxing meal, be weary of the continual criticism from customers about feeling rushed out to serve those behind you. In general, a pretty good pick for Japanese in light of its overall absence around Athens.
RU SAN’S
If you have fantasies about a plethora of sushi rolls at your convenience, Ru San’s is your dream come true. They have a vast selection of rolls that satisfy both sushi beginners and connoisseurs. Creative menu items like the “Hard Rock & Roll” include unconventional additions like pickled garlic and scallops, but traditional Japanese tastes can be found in their non-sushi meals like chicken yakitori. This hot spot seems to be continually bustling with people, which has an impact on the customer service from the restaurant staff. Not the best in this arena, but this grievance can be overlooked with their affordable prices in a food genre that is notoriously pricey.
