Owens adds ‘blogger’ to resume

Taking out offensive linemen and hitting quarterbacks on the field isn’t enough – Jeff Owens wants his impact to be felt on the World Wide Web.
Georgia’s friendly and verbose defensive tackle has started his own blog, and he wants everyone to know about it.
“One day I was just reading one of my friends’ blogs, and it just dawned on me,” said Owens, a redshirt senior from Sunrise, Fla. “I have a lot of ideas, I have a lot to talk about. People say I’m very talkative, so I might as well put it on paper and start my own blog.”
The blog, jeffowens95.blogspot.com, is aptly titled “Jeff Owens: The Real Deal,” and is a foray into what Owens calls “the inside scoop of a college athlete and our everyday lives.” Since he started the blog at the beginning of February, Owens has covered topis ranging from explorations into the stereotypes athletes face to Q&As with teammates.
“I’ve said it so much that my teammates now will be with me and they tell people before I can even say it, ‘Check out the blog, jeffowens95.blogspot.com,’” he said. “It’s becoming a household name.”
“It’s all he ever talks about,” said quarterback Joe Cox, Owens’ fishing buddy and most recent victim. “He’s on it every day.”
Owens tore his ACL in 2008′s season opener, is now running and says his rehab is on schedule for a September return. While he’s rehabbing, he’ll also be adding new features to his blog. He’s hoping to put up a “Question of the Day” feature where readers post questions for him to answer, and wants to add an “Off the Gridiron” section.
Owens will admit that, hopefully after a successful career in the NFL, he hopes to join the media in some larger capacity (“like [ESPN Radio's] Mike & Mike”). For now, he’s sticking with expressing himself through his blog – but that doesn’t stop him from promoting.
“I have one [today] that I’m going to post about [linebacker] Marcus Washington,” he said. “There’s a lot that people don’t know about him, and I’m going to let them know.”
