Gym Dogs closer to No. 1 spot
In just her second time competing on vault at the collegiate level Friday, freshman Gym Dog Kat Ding posted a 9.900, helping Georgia post a 196.975 en route to sweeping its tri-meet with Kentucky and Centenary.
“I thought we did well tonight,” coach Suzanne Yoculan said in a news release. “We were a little up and down, but just little bumps and not deep holes.”
In just her second meet competing more than one event, Ding’s 9.9 was the first of her career and good enough to earn her first individual event title as a Gym Dog. She also chipped in a 9.850 on bars.
“I had one good practice in the gym and Suzanne scored me at a 9.9 and I still stepped,” Ding said. “So I was really hoping that I could keep that score in competition. I stuck it and I didn’t know what to do with myself.”
Senior Courtney Kupets’ 39.575 gave her the all-around title for the seventh time in Georgia’s seven meets this season.
The third-ranked Gym Dogs entered the weekend just .005 behind No. 2 UCLA in cumulative score, and their performance Friday in Lexington may be enough to push them past the Bruins and closer to the No. 1 spot they started the season at.
