Georgia’s Goler named SEC softball player of the week
Georgia sophomore Alisa Goler was named the Southeastern Conference Player of the Week for softball Monday.
Goler, a native of Frankfort, Ill., led all hitters in the Georgia Softball Classic with a .636 batting average (7-for-11), three home runs and 16 runs-batted in. She also drew seven walks and scored eight runs to help the Bulldogs go 5-0 and earn the tournament title.
Against Ball State, Goler went 3-for-3 with two home runs and a career-high seven RBI. It was her third two-home run game of the season and the seven RBI tied the school record for RBI in a game, a feat that was achieved just once before in program history by Michelle Tyree against East Tennessee in 2002. Goler also scored a career-high three runs in the contest versus the Cardinals. She followed up her game against Ball State with a 2-for-3, 3-RBI performance against Tennessee State to give her 10 RBI on the day.
Against IUPUI, Goler recorded her first-career grand slam. It was also her team-leading ninth home run of the season, which puts her over half way to the Georgia record for home runs in a season (16) through just 13 games played. Goler’s 16 RBI in the Georgia Softball Classic raised her season total to 36, which is also more than half way to the school record for RBI in a season (65).
On the year, Goler currently leads the SEC in several statistical categories including batting average (.615), slugging percentage (1.462), on-base percentage (.673), hits (24), RBI (36), home runs (9) and total bases (57). She is also tied first in doubles (6) and ranks fourth in runs scored (18).
The SEC Player of the Week honor is the first weekly honor from the league for Goler, and it the first time a Bulldog has earned Player of the Week since Kellie Middleton did so in March of 2007.
