Just when you thought the Georgia men’s basketball team had hit rock-bottom, it seeped deeper into irrelevance with its 69-47 loss at Mississippi Saturday.

The Bulldogs’ momentum created from their 88-86 win over Florida hasn’t sustained, as the Valentine’s Day upset has turned into aberration with Georgia dropping its two subsequent games by a combined 33 points.

The Bulldogs (10-17, 1-11) trailed 27-21 at halftime, but disappeared in the opening minutes of the second half, as Rebel guards Terrico White and David Huertas combined for 11 points to put the game out of reach.

“White and Huertas are very good players and they showed their ability in that second half,” Georgia interim coach Pete Herrmann said in a press release. “They really put us in a hole with those early baskets. After that point, our guys became very fragile. We just have to go back to working hard and improving on a daily basis.”

The Rebels (15-11, 6-6) held Georgia to 25 percent shooting, including a staggering 4 for 18 from the 3-point line. The Bulldogs managed only 14 made baskets in a forgettable SEC effort.

Georgia was dominated in the lane, out-scored 38-12 in the paint and the Rebels swatted seven Bulldog attempts.

The Bulldogs showed improvement, slightly, in committing 14 turnovers, shooting 71 percent at the free-throw line, and keeping pace in the rebound battle. But the offensive woes were too much to overcome.

Terrance Woodbury was the only Bulldog in double figures, scoring 19 points and pulling down eight rebounds. Woodbury provided a colorful moment in an otherwise bland afternoon, becoming the 39th player to score 1,000 points in Georgia history.
