Softball’s Goler awarded first SEC honor
On Monday, sophomore infielder Alisa Goler was named SEC softball player of the week for the first time in her two-year career for the Georgia softball team.
This announcement came after Goler hit three home runs and 16 RBIs this past weekend at the Georgia Softball Classic in Athens.
During the tournament, Goler batted 7-for-11, scored eight runs and drew seven walks.
Against Ball State on Friday in the tournament, Goler tied Michelle Tyree’s school record of seven RBIs in a single game. Tyree achieved her feat against East Tennessee State in 2002.
Goler followed her seven RBI performance with three more RBIs against Tennessee State Friday night, which gave her 10 RBIs for the day.
In 13 games this season, Goler leads the SEC in several categories, including batting average (.615), home runs (nine), slugging percentage (1.462), on-base percentage (.673), hits (24), RBIs (36) and total bases (57).
Goler’s RBI total already puts her past the halfway point for Georgia’s school record of RBIS in a single season – 65.
Goler’s ninth home run came against IUPUI on Saturday, when she hit her first career grand slam. She has also hit two home runs in three different games.
Goler’s SEC player of the week honor is the first for a Georgia softball player since Kelly Middleton won the weekly award in March 2007.
