Crimewatch Deluxe: Feb. 19-24
The following was reported by Athens Clarke-county police:
University student Ciara Timmons reported a criminal trespass to property on East Paces Drive on Feb. 23 between 3 and 8 a.m. A $50 front window was broken.
University student Kiera Crowe reported harassing phone calls from Feb. 14 at 11:58 a.m. to Feb. 20 at 4:50 p.m. Crowe reported that a blocked phone number has repeatedly called her. The male speaks in Spanish, but when Crowe speaks back in Spanish, he says he does not speak Spanish. He has called several times a day. Crowe told the offender to stop.
University graduate student Demetrius Mathis reported an entering auto on Seagraves Drive between 9 p.m. on Feb. 20 and 12:15 a.m. on Feb. 21. The offender broke in through the $100 passenger side window and stole a $650 Garmin GPS.
University student Amanda Sartain reported a theft by taking from General Beauregard’s Bar on Feb. 21 between 2 and 2:15 a.m. A black $175 coat, a $100 Blackberry Curve cell phone and a debit card were stolen.
University student Stephen Mackenzie Fausel was arrested and charged with underage possession of alcohol on Feb. 21 between 2:30 and 3 a.m. at the intersection of Oconee and Carr. Prior to arrest, Fausel waived down the arresting officer and said he was very drunk and lost. He then asked the officer for a ride home. On his way to jail he repeatedly said he did not know why he was going to jail.
University student Rachel Frances Pugilese was arrested and charged with DUI on Feb. 21 at 2:43 a.m. at the intersection of Mitchell Bridge Road and River Ridge Drive. According to the police report: Pugilese said she had three beers. Her speech was slightly slurred, and she voluntarily submitted to a field sobriety test. During the test, Pugilese missed her own heel and stopped walking to talk about her lack of balance. Pugilese blew a .11 in a breath test. The stop was part of a sobriety check point.
An injured person was reported at Broad Street on Feb. 21 at 3 a.m. An officer was dispatched to Athens Regional Medical Center to meet with a University student. An unknown person brought the victim to the hospital. The unknown person reported seeing the student walking near the railroad tracks on East Broad, clearly intoxicated, with a severe cut to the right eye. The officer met with the victim and noticed a half inch cut above right eye that needed stitches. Her clothes were wet, and she would not give the officer any personal information. Based on the hospital records, the girl was identified. When the officer first met with the student, he asked her if he was hurt. She replied, “He works where I live.” She later said “He haunts me and knocks at my door.” She refused to speak with the officer further. She received an IV and X-rays. When she returned she was sober and more willing to talk. She said she had been drinking at Flanagan’s bar and later fell into a fountain while walking home. She said her roommate’s name, but she would not give further information about where she lives.
University employee Kenneth J. Oppecker reported an entering auto at Iris Place Apartments between 8 p.m. on Feb. 20 and 9 a.m. on Feb. 21. A $100 window was broken with a rock and a $300 Sirius satellite radio was taken.
University student Richard Hardy Kaiser was arrested and charged with pedestrian under the influence on Feb. 21 between 10:20 and 10:25 p.m. at the intersection of Clayton and Jackson streets. Kaiser “staggered” into the crosswalk against the signal. The arresting officer had to quickly break to avoid hitting him.
University student Nathaniel Ryan Brown reported a burglary on Gran Ellen Drive on Feb. 21 between 5:30 and 11:30 p.m. Other victims include Joshua Hamilton Boatright and William Robert Kitchens. The suspect entered through Kitchens’ room and stole a $550 Presario laptop, a $250 mp3 player, a $200 XBox 360 and a $900 Sony television. A closet was open and had clearly been rummaged.
University student Rebecca Sarah Marken reported a theft by taking from American Tavern on Feb. 22 between 2:20 and 2:25 a.m. Marken reported that her purse and contents were taken; contents included a $20 wallet, a $100 camera, $37 in cash, a license, ATM card, a $200 iPhone and $10 car keys. Marken said she called her phone and a woman picked up but immediately hung up.
University student Ronald O’Dell reported criminal damage to property at the Waffle House on Oconee Street on Feb. 22 between 2:40 and 3:15 a.m. O’Dell’s side mirror was broken.
University student Dylan Riley reported a burglary from a West Hancock home between 9 p.m. on Feb. 21 and 4 a.m. on Feb. 22. A $400 iPod Touch, a $1,000 laptop and a $200 xBox were taken. A $100 screen wire was ripped.
University student Alison Sutton reported obscure and harassing phone calls at Riverwalk Apartments between 2 p.m. Feb. 14 and 1 p.m. Feb. 19. Sutton said she has been receiving calls and texts through the night ever since she broke up with her boyfriend. A few messages sent said her boyfriend was going to beat up whomever Sutton brought to formal.
University student Josh Mullis reported a motor vehicle theft on Big Oak Circle on Feb. 21 between 10 and 10:30 p.m. A yellow Suzuki motorcycle was taken.
University student Meghan Kristie Orlando was arrested at the intersection of Broad Street and Holman Avenue and charged with DUI and no headlights on Feb. 22 between 2 a.m. and 2:10 a.m. Orlando told the officer she was the sober driver for her drunk friend. During a field sobriety test, Orlando swayed while walking, stepped out of line and made an improper turn. Orlando blew a .089 in a breath test. Another officer took the passenger home.
University student Rachel Claire Morgan reported a theft by taking from Sandbar on Feb. 19 between 12:50 and 1:19 a.m. Morgan said she set her $50 purse on the bathroom counter to wash her hands, at which time it was stolen. Contents included a Blackberry phone, $35 in cash, credit cards, a driver’s license and keys.
University student Adele Wilson Burrous was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct at Sideways bar on Feb. 20 at 1:34 a.m. The arresting officer had been dispatched because Burrous was fighting bar customers and would not leave. Burrous was holding the front door closed, so an unknown female pushed it open, at which time Burrous slapped her. Burrous had no identification for the officer. Later an employee brought out Burrous’ wallet, saying she threw it at him after ordering a drink, which also contained no identification. An ambulance was dispatched due to Burrous’ strange behavior. Burrous was booked under the information she gave the officer and transported to jail.
A female, 25, reported a rape by a known individual on Feb. 8 between 12:01 and 4 a.m.
University student Cartter Fontaine reported an entering auto on Georgia Drive on Feb. 23 between 11:55 a.m. and 12 p.m. Two suspects threw a brick through the side window and stole a $300 iPod.
University student Macon Bishop Cobb reported a criminal attempted burglary at her Hodgson Drive home on Feb. 23 between 3:55 and 4:05 p.m. Two suspects tried to enter Cobb’s home through the back porch sliding doors. Cobb was in her living room and got up in time to see the two individuals running away. Prints and a piece of paper with handwriting – possibly of the suspect’s – were found.
There was an armed robbery at the Golden Pantry gas station at the intersection of Broad Street and Milledge Ave. on Feb. 23 between 11:25 and 11:26 p.m. Two suspects pointed a pistol at the clerk and demanded money and drugs. The clerk gave them $22 from the drawer. The clerk told the police a bag a marijuana was found in the back of the store around 9:15 p.m.
The following incidents were reported by University Police:
Between Jan. 15 at 5 p.m. and Feb. 1 at 8 a.m., $34,762 of property was taken from the Chemistry Annex Building. Items included 29 Dell desktop computers and 1 Apple laptop.
A University student reported her vehicle was hit in the Ramsey lot on Feb. 23 at 11:16 a.m.
A student lost a wallet and its contents, valued at $55, in Creswell Hall on Feb. 23 at 12:15 p.m.
A University employee reported a burglary at the Pharmacy Building between noon Feb. 3 and 4 p.m. Feb. 5. A $1,200 Gateway laptop was stolen.
A University student lost his wallet, valued at $48, in the Tate Center between 1 a.m. on Feb. 17 and 10:10 a.m. on Feb. 18.
A University student reported his vehicle was struck on Feb. 21 between 2:36 and 2:46 a.m. in the North Campus parking deck.
Multiple rooms in Peabody Hall were forcefully entered between 5 p.m. on Feb. 20 and 11:30 a.m. on Feb. 22. No items are reported stolen at this time.
A University student reported her vehicle was struck in the Reed Community lot between 11:30 p.m. on Jan. 11 and 12:10 p.m. on Jan. 12.
A University student lost a $400 high school class ring in the Ramsey Center between 7:30 p.m. on Feb. 16 and 4:30 p.m. on Feb. 17.
A University student reported a theft by taking at the Ramsey Center on Feb. 19 between 8:45 and 9:25 p.m. An unattended gym bag and contents, valued at $81, was taken.
A University student reported stalking and simple battery at the Law School between Feb. 12 at 2 a.m. and Feb. 19 at 10 p.m. The victim said a known individual contacted her and made unwanted physical contact.
University visitor Odis Mitchell Sims was arrested at Dean Rusk Hall and charged with bringing a weapon onto school grounds on Feb. 19 at 9:04 a.m.
University student Luke Benjamin Williams was arrested on Agriculture Drive and charged with DUI and failure to maintain lane on Feb. 20 at 2:31 a.m.
A University employee reported a theft by taking from Miller Plant Sciences on Feb. 17 between 9 and 11 a.m. A leather bag with headphones and two jump drives, valued at $410, was taken.
University student William F. McFetridge was arrested in the Human Resources parking lot and charged with driving with a suspended license on Feb. 18 at 5:26 p.m.
