Removing Facebook from campus won’t solve issue
(This letter is in response to Frederic Behrens’ Tuesday letter, “Take Facebook off campus.”)
Banning Facebook at the University is unrealistic and stupid. So you put a network ban on access – what about the thousands of students living in the dorms who use the wireless during their daily lives?
Should they not be allowed to use the accounts they already have? Sure Facebooking in class is distracting to the people around it, but it really is no less distracting than the person sitting next to me obsessively texting on a crackberry, whispering to friends for crossword answers, doodling or doing sudoku.
I suggest if you are too easily distracted, you learn to sit in the front of the classroom where distractions are not in your line of vision and you can focus on every single word that leaves your professors’ mouths.
Oh and by the way, as a junior, not a freshman, who currently is sitting on Facebook in my class, I see that you have a Facebook account, and we even have two friends in common!
Maybe you should set the precedent and delete your Facebook now! Don’t fret, everyone will follow your precedent and Facebook won’t be a problem on campus anymore.

Drivers must be more attentive
Today, the second time this month, I was almost hit by a car that failed to yield to me while in a crosswalk. The last time was in front of the North Deck, this time by the Arch downtown. All drivers must yield to pedestrians on their half of the street or within two lanes of them.
Both of these instances happened where I was more than close enough to kick their cars, and even more sad, both were females who didn’t seem to even care. Please protect lives and stop giving female drivers a bad rap.
