The Georgia men’s basketball team may not have a chance at an at-large bid in the NCAA tournament but it just might have dashed Kentucky’s hopes in a 90-85 win on the road Wednesday night.

The Bulldogs found the balance and chemistry they needed to secure their first SEC road victory. Four Bulldog starters contributed double-digit scoring performances bolstered by senior Terrance Woodbury’s 30.

“It was a real team win,” said interim coach Pete Herrmann in a press release. “I felt we were aggressive offensively. We wanted to make sure we constantly put pressure on their defense because they are very good in the passing lanes. I told our guys to play with purpose and maintain their poise. It was a great win.”

Comparable to Georgia’s upset win over Florida on Valentine’s Day, Woodbury carried the Bulldogs in the first half, scoring 21 points, while providing his teammates with momentum and confidence.

Woodbury not only knocked down shots, but did the subtle work necessary to reel off the victory, helping on defense and unselfishly creating for others on offense. If not for six turnovers, Woodbury’s night was near-perfect, adding five assists and three rebounds.

After trailing 49-47 at half-time, Georgia (12-18, 3-12 SEC) controlled the second period, leading 78-68 with 5:46 to play. Kentucky (19-11, 8-7 SEC) worked its way back into contention thanks in part to nine points down the stretch from Georgia native Jodie Meeks, who finished with a team-high 23. Woodbury’s fourth 3-pointer of the game ended the Kentucky run and freshmen Trey Thompkins and Dustin Ware capped Georgia’s third SEC victory of the year at the free-throw line.

Thompkins played arguably his best game in his short career, scoring 19 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. Ware and senior Corey Butler joined in double-figures with 18 and 13 respectively.
