Lady Bulldogs fall to Arizona State in NCAA first round
DULUTH – Basketball at Georgia is over for the season, as the Lady Bulldogs fell to Arizona State 58-47 Saturday afternoon at the Gwinnett Center in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
What amounted to a home game for Georgia never developed that way as the Lady Bulldogs led only one time at 4-2.
The Sun Devils got out to a big lead with tough defense and all-out hustle. Arizona State out-rebounded Georgia 17-11 in the first half, including 8-1 on the offensive end.
The Devils held Georgia to just 10 points through the first 15 minutes and led 27-20 at halftime.
The second half was much of the same for Georgia. Arizona state built a 48-33 lead before a short-lived eight point Georgia run cut the lead to seven with just under five minutes left.
But the Sun Devils were just too much as they answered back with an 8-2 run of their own to seize control.
Arizona held all Georgia scorers to single digits. Porsha Phillips, Angel Robinson and Angela Puleo all scored nine points and Ashley Houts added eight points and four assists.
