The ninth-ranked Georgia softball team (20-4, 4-2 SEC) completed a weekend series sweep of the South Carolina Gamecocks (13-13, 1-11 SEC) on Sunday afternoon in Columbia, S.C.

The Bulldogs defeated the Gamecocks by a combined score of 20-1 over the three-game stretch and were able to go over the .500 mark in SEC play for the first time this season.

Senior pitcher Christie Hamilton tossed her eighth complete game and fourth shutout of the season in the Bulldogs’ 6-0 win over South Carolina in Game 3 Sunday. Hamilton allowed just four hits and two walks while striking out six over seven innings of work to improve to 8-3 on the year.

“The weekend went good. Everybody did their part,” Hamilton said. “We came together and played as a team.”

In Game 1 on Saturday afternoon, sophomore pitcher Sarah McCloud improved to 9-1 on the season after allowing only one run on three hits over seven innings in the Bulldogs 4-1 victory. Taylor Schlopy tied a career high with three hits as well as grabbing three stolen bases and scoring two runs.

Sophomore third baseman Alisa Goler and sophomore infielder Megan Wiggins each had one RBI in the game. Behind the combined efforts of Hamilton and freshman pitcher Erin Arevalo, the Bulldogs were able to take the second game of Saturday’s double-header by a final of 10-0.

Hamilton started the game for the Bulldogs and tossed three scoreless innings before giving way to Arevalo in the fourth inning. The Bulldogs return home on Wednesday to take on Mercer and kick off a five-game home stand that includes a weekend series against Kentucky.
