Crimewatch March 29 – April 5
The following incidents were reported by the University of Georgia Police Department:
A University employee reported aggravated assault by a known individual in an off-campus location on March 26 at 6:45 p.m. The victim had cuts on her right leg and left hand.
A University employee reported receiving harassing phone calls at the University Health Center on April 3 at 3:20 p.m.
A University student was transported to the hospital for sickness relating to underage possession of alcohol on April 4 at 9:48 p.m. in Meigs Hall.
A University student reported a criminal trespass in the Chi Phi parking lot between 6:30 p.m. on April 4 and 12:22 p.m. on April 5. The victim’s vehicle was damaged.
A University student reported a theft by taking in the Hull Street employee parking lot between 7:30 p.m. on April 4 and 12:22 p.m. on April 5. A $20 Georgia license plate was taken.
A University student reported a theft by taking and financial transaction card fraud in the Phi Delta Theta parking lot on April 5 between 1:30 p.m. and 3 p.m. An unattended wallet and contents, worth $182, was taken, and a credit card was used without authorization.
A University employee reported a theft by taking on April 5 between 8 p.m. and 8:15 p.m. in the Ramsey Center. A $400 unattended iPhone was taken.
University student Sarah Lindsay Potter was arrested and charged with DUI, improper right turn and underage possession of alcohol on April 4 at 3:40 a.m. at the intersection of Church Street and Baxter Street.
A University student reported a theft of lost or mislaid property in the Law School on April 2 between 9:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. A $33 purse was taken and later found. No theft occurred.
A University student reported an identity fraud and financial transaction card fraud in Rooker Hall between 9:21 a.m. on March 26 and 8 p.m. on March 29. The victim’s identity and bank account were used without permission.
University students Joshua Mark Ketchie, Timothy Charles Rumely and Oliver Ellis, along with Thomas Buonocore reported a burglary on Oxford Court on April 6 between 8:15 a.m. and 11 a.m. The following was taken: a $900 PC, a $350 flat screen monitor, a $400 flat screen LCD television, a $1,100 HP laptop, a $1,000 Sony PC, a $300 xBox, a $1,700 HP Pavilion laptop and $350 in DVDs and games. The back door was left unlocked.
University student Linsey Epley reported a residential burglary on April 6 between 5:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. on Whitehead Road. A $300 window and a $20 screen were broken to enter the home. Nothing was taken, but a $100 tool box had been moved to the yard and the trash can had been tipped over.
A criminal trespass was reported in the Visual Arts building between 5 p.m. on April 3 and 8 p.m. on April 6. Paint was being thrown on the building.
A University student reported a theft by taking in Ogelthorpe House Dining Commons on April 6 between 2 p.m. and 2:15 p.m. A wallet and contents, worth $30, was taken.
A warrant was issued for University student Andrew Hugh Wiles on April 6 at 1:13 for Underage possession of alcohol.
The following incidents were reported by the Athens Clarke County Police Department:
James Vincent Honegan, 22, was charged with obstruction of a 911 call, obstruction of a law enforcement official and public intoxication on April 6 between 12:46 a.m. and 12:51 a.m. in Picadilly Square.
According to the police report:
The victim was used to live with Honegan and went to the apartment to retrieve personal items. Honegan would not let her. When a friend called police, Honegan took the cell phone away. The victim told police Honegan has threatened to kill her and has pushed her into a wall. The victim showed the officer bruises and scratches. Honegan was clearly intoxicated and harassed the police as they accompanied the victim as she retrieved hr belongings. He said they were racist and making another Rodney King incident. Honegan got very upset as the victim finished collecting her things, and it took three officers to contain him. Honegan continued to use racial slurs at the jail.
University student Kathleen Gail Robinson reported a theft by taking between 12:30 a.m. on April 3 and 1 a.m. at April 4 at Gameday Pub. Robinson’s purse, including a cell phone, digital camera, sun glasses, keys and credit cards, was taken from a chair where the victim had hung it.
University student John Lally, 19, was arrested and charged with underage possession of alcohol at the SAE house on April 4 between 10 p.m. and 10:08 p.m. There had been a function at the house all day, and Lally had been drinking. The arresting officer was dispatched in reference to alcohol poisoning; Lally had passed out on a couch and people became concerned. The officer recognized Lally, who was being held up by friends, as someone he had arrested before for underage possession of alcohol. Lally denied medical treatment. Lally was arrested on Jan. 16 with underage possession of alcohol and possession of a fake ID.
James R. Heine was arrested and charged with underage consumption and public intoxication at the SAE fraternity house on April 4 at 5:15 p.m. An officer was working off duty at the house for an all day function. SAE members had brought Heine into the house when they found him unconscious. EMS was called.
University student Megan Joy Gilchrist, 19, was arrested and charged with underage possession of alcohol and open container in the SAE parking lot on April 4 at 7:40 p.m. The arresting officer was issuing two open container citations when the student approached with a beer in hand. When she saw the officer she immediately set the beer down. At first request she denied having identification, but she eventually gave the officer her UGA ID and told him her age.
University student Ben Lewis reported a theft by taking at the SAE house on April 4 between 4 p.m. and 11:45 p.m. A $2,200 Macbook pro laptop was taken during an all day event.
Sarah Elizabeth Coggin, 20, was arrested and charged with underage possession of alcohol open container and littering on West Hancock on April 4 between 8:38 p.m. and 8:44 p.m. Marisa Jeanette Negri was also arrested for underage possession of alcohol and open container.
Timothy Walton Moore, 19, was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana at the intersection of East Clayton Street and Wall Street on April 5 between 12:08 a.m. and 12:14 a.m. Moore had turned the wrong way down a one-way street and was stopped. They said there was no weed. Search found two blunts. A glass pipe was also found. Kimberly Delle and Frederick J. Madasz were also arrested.
Andrew Christian Davis received a noise ordinance violation on Oconee Street on April 5 between 12:20 a.m. and 12:40 a.m.
Carlos and Mariela Arzabe reported harassing phone calls between March 5 at 12:20 a.m. and April 5 at 12:20 a.m. They received calls at all hours from their friends’ cell phone numbers. The person on the other line would be silent. When Arzabe asked who was calling the person responded, “I am a Martian. The little green kind.” The suspect is someone Arzabe used to tutor before he moved out of state. The suspect is diagnosed with mental health issues but does not take medicine.
Susan Elaine Little and Gina Michelle Havafi reported a residential burglary at The Woodlands between 3 p.m. on April 3 and 4 p.m. on April 5. The following was taken: $150 pearls, $2,000 Tag watch, $1,500 dell laptop, $1,200 toshiba laptop, $200 Long Champ bag, $2,000 Toshiba laptop, $1,000 Dell laptop, $200 iPod Nano, keys and other items. The house was entered through a rear window, which was shattered. Pry marks were on the rear door, but the suspects were unsuccessful there. The victims had an alarm system but it was not activated.
Joey Lim, 20, was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana, underage possession of alcohol and fraudulent driver’s license on April 3 between 1:35 a.m. and 1:53 a.m. at Lakeside Apartments.
According to the police report:
Police were called to the apartment complex about an altercation. Lim was wet and covered in mud and told police he had fallen. He smelled strongly of alcohol. Upon search, police found a bag of marijuana in his front right pocket along with another person’s identification.
A burglary was reported at the Kappa Alpha Fraternity house on Hancock Avenue on April 3 between 12 a.m. and 1:30 a.m. A $2,500 flat panel television was taken from the basement. Doors had been left unlocked.
Joseph Nathan Price, 24, was arrested and charged with public intoxication at the Subway on Prince Avenue on April 2 between 11 p.m. and 11:55 p.m. A store worked called police after Price fell asleep on a bench and then fell off. When police arrived Price told them to “Fuck off,” and proceeded to kick the police officer.
Leilah Zahedi reported a theft by taking at the Kroger on College Station on April 2 at 7:27 p.m. A $200 blue clutch purse with $25 in cash and a $200 set of keys was taken from Zahedi’s cart when she was not looking. The suspect, a black male in baggy dark pants and dark tennis shoes was seen taking the purse on the store video camera. The store manager found the purse at the end of an aisle with the money missing.
Samantha Shelton reported a theft by taking at Riverwalk Apartments on April 2 between 10:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. A $115 Magna bicycle and a $15 light was taken. Note: Shelton works for the Red & Black as a columnist.
Toni Chontelle Knight reported terroristic threats at The Lodge on April 2 between 11:04 a.m. and 12:17 p.m. The suspect continually called Knight to threatening her physically and emotionally. Knight had provided the suspect’s wife with a place to stay while the couple settled a domestic violence situation.
