Freshman gymnast trains as alternate on floor

Freshman Gym Dog Gina Nuccio has endured everything from sprained ankles to a preseason heart complication this year.
But Nuccio has been chipping in solid performances on bars as of late, scoring at least a 9.850 in each of the Gym Dogs’ last six meets. And now she’s training as Georgia’s alternate on floor for next week’s NCAA Championships.
With senior all-arounder Tiffany Tolnay battling a nagging foot injury all season and sophomore junior Marcia Newby in a similar boat with a shin injury, there’s a chance, albeit small, that Nuccio could perform on floor next week.
“Odds are I won’t compete at all [on floor], but just the fact that I’m training and trying to help out people that are hurt, it makes a difference,” she said.
Lady Dog announces plan to transfer
Georgia women’s basketball player Angela Puleo will transfer, head coach Andy Landers announced Tuesday.
Puleo, who started all but three of the Lady Dogs’ 31 games during her sophomore season in 2008-09, averaged 7.4 points and 2.4 rebounds per game this year.
“We appreciate all of Angela’s contributions over the past two years and wish her well,” Landers said.
“The University of Georgia has provided me with an excellent education during my two years in Athens,” Puleo said. “I just feel at this time it would be in my best interest to look for another school.”
