In a day and age where surprise endings are rare, Jodi Picoult is refreshingly creative and proves herself as a rare talent.

Many people have heard of her most famous novel, “My Sister’s Keeper,” which is being translated into movie form due out this summer.

The book opens as a seemingly easy-to-decipher plot line about two parents whose lives revolve around their eldest daughter, Kate, who has cancer. The entire family begins to realize they define themselves by the role they play in Kate’s life.

Picoult, however, takes the reader on an ‘S-curve’ when the youngest daughter, Anna, finds out her life was decided for her long before she had a choice.

Anna was the product of in vitro fertilization, genetically matched to her sister so as to provide perfect matches of blood and organ donations. Anna decides to fight for the right to her own body, and again Picoult takes the storyline for a spin.
