Crimewatch April 9 – 14
The following was reported by the Athens Clarke County Police:
University student Michael Arford reported a theft by taking at the Theta Chi fraternity house on March 6 between 9 p.m. and 11 p.m. A $400 iPod touch and $15 silicon case were taken from Arford’s unlocked room. Arford waited to report the theft because he thought one of his fraternity brothers may have borrowed it.
University student Kevin Patrick Booth reported financial transaction card fraud on March 26 at 9:35 p.m. on Clayton Street. Someone used Booth’s debt card to purchase a $350 money order online without permission.
University student Leith O’Riley reported a residential burglary attempt on Lumpkin Street on April 13 between noon and 12:10 p.m. A $50 glass door was broken by a brick, but entry was not made due to a double-sided deadbolt. Earlier in the month O’Riley called the police about a suspicious person knocking on all her doors. When she called the police, the suspect fled.
University student Helen Virginia Bennett reported an attempted burglary at The Summit apartment complex on April 15 between 1:53 a.m. and 1:56 a.m. Bennett was asleep when she heard a noise. She looked up and saw a man half-way through her bedroom window. Bennett screamed and the suspect fled. The window had been left open, and the suspect broke a $50 screen. The suspect is described as a black male with a green hoodie and black gloves with white tape on them.
The following was reported by the University police:
A University student reported an entering auto on April 14 between 11:30 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. at the Delta Phi Epsilon fraternity house. The student’s book bag, containing a laptop, iPod, cell phone, wallet and other contents valued in total at $1,306, was taken.
A University student reported a theft by taking in Caldwell Hall between 5 p.m. on April 9 and 12 p.m. on April 13. A $1,600 red and black Hauwin Magnum scooter was taken.
A University student reported a criminal trespass in the North Deck between 8 a.m. April 9 and 2:30 a.m. April 10. A rear glass window was broken.
A University student reported simple battery on Legion Field on April 9 between 9 p.m. and 10:03 p.m. The victim said a known individual physically insulted her.
A University employee reported a theft by taking on April 12 at 5:27 p.m. at the Intramural fields. The victim reported that two individuals took a $200 fishing rod, which was later recovered.
Two University students reported a domestic dispute and criminal trespass on April 10 at 1:14 a.m. in Ogelthorpe House. The victims reported that after a verbal argument with known individuals several items were thrown at them.
