By on April 17, 2009

The Georgia women’s tennis team clinched their first outright SEC regular season title since 2002 Saturday with a 5-2 victory over No. 13 Tennessee Saturday.

The second-ranked Bulldogs (20-2, 10-1) also earned the top seed in next week’s SEC Tournament with the win over the Lady Volunteers in Knoxville, Tenn.

Georgia senior Monika Dancevic clinched the match after she outlasted Jennifer Meredith 7-6 (1), 7-6 (6) in two tiebreakers.

The lone senior on the squad, Dancevic, also helped Georgia come from behind to win the doubles point by a narrow margin. Trailing 7-4 at the 2-doubles position, Dancevic and partner Yvette Hyndman rallied to knock off the Lady Volunteers’ duo of Rosalia Alda and Zsofia Zubor 9-8(5) to clinch the doubles point and give Georgia an early 1-0 lead.
