Ticketing trialsThe electronic ticket system is faulty at best and students will not benefit. Let the ticket fiasco begin. Starting in the fall, the University will implement a new electronic ticket policy – one that is sure to draw the ire of many students.

Long before computers and spreadsheets, Tyus Butler was a human database of information about graduates of the University of Georgia. If you wanted to know when someone graduated, where the person lived, his or her profession and likely the names of the person’s spouse and children, Butler probably could tell you.

University professor George Zinkhan is now one of “America’s Most Wanted” and a picture of him taken in February was released to the media. “America’s Most Wanted” posted Zinkhan on their Web site, and the show is considering a segment on the crime and the hunt for its show on May 16
Upswing in Athens burglaries not related to economy, analyst says

Last year, Athens saw the largest number of burglaries it had in over a decade.
But the rise in burglaries aren’t a result of the poor economy, said David Griffeth, a criminal analyst with the Athens-Clarke County Police Department.
“Athens hasn’t had the terrible economic problems that other parts of the country have seen,” Griffeth said at Tuesday’s lecture, entitled “The Effect of the Economic Downturn on Crime.
Qualitative research professor discusses risk in writing

A research professor advocated taking personal risks for equality in a writing lecture Tuesday.
Corey Johnson, a qualitative research professor, gave the talk entitled “Writing Ourselves at Risk: Using Self-Narrative in Working for Social Justice.”
Johnson focused on personal narratives from his own life, the risk involved in publishing them, and the impact on research and social awareness that came with showing actual experience.
DUI schools abound in Athens

Athens’ downtown nightlife not only helps the music scene flourish but also makes a great market for the DUI school industry. The city has four DUI schools, more than any other city in Georgia -minus Atlanta- according to the Georgia Department of Driver Services.
UGA HEROs hits $1 million mark

There will be new meaning to the phrase “thanks a million” when UGA HEROs gives the money it has raised this semester to the HERO For Children organization in Atlanta. In less than six years, HEROs has joined an exclusive class of campus organizations to raise more than $1 million.
Kupets ‘best collegiate gymnast ever’

Go ahead and give Courtney Kupets one more award.
Kupets, the senior Gym Dog who is already the most decorated NCAA gymnast of all-time, was named the Honda Award winner Wednesday as the nation’s top college gymnast.
It continues a three-year streak for Georgia gymnastics, as Kupets took the title a first time in 2007 before former teammate Katie Heenan claimed it last season.
