The Georgia men’s basketball team is getting a proven scorer, but he won’t be eligible until 2010.

Gerald Robinson Jr., a point guard out of Tennessee State, will transfer to Georgia for his final two years of eligibility. Robinson, a first-team all-Ohio Valley Conference performer last season, averaged 17.8 points per game while leading the Tigers in 3-point percentage and free-throw percentage. As a freshman he averaged 15.2 points per game, and has scored 1,000 points in his two seasons at TSU.

“I sat down and evaluated everything, put together a checklist, and Georgia offered all the things I was looking for,” Robinson told The Tennessean. “I’m going into a situation with a new staff where I can be one of their guys.”

Robinson, who will have to sit out the 2009-10 season under NCAA transfer rules, also considered Alabama, Memphis and Marquette.
