Georgia’s Schlopy invited to USA softball selection camp

Georgia’s Taylor Schlopy has accepted an invitation to attend the 2009 USA Softball Women’s National Team Selection Camp according to an announcement made by USA Softball and the Amateur Softball Association of America Tuesday.

Schlopy, a sophomore from West Hills, Calif., was one of 10 additional athletes who accepted an invitation to attend the National Team Selection Camp. Those 10 athletes will join the 27, announced at a previous date, at the Selection Camp in Chula Vista, Calif., June 8-12.

Schlopy, an All-Southeast Region and All-Southeastern Conference First Team member, is currently batting .420 with 12 home runs, 36 runs-batted in and a team-best 64 runs scored. Nationally, Schlopy leads the nation in runs per game (1.28) while ranking fifth in on-base percentage (.567), 12th in slugging percentage (.832), 25th in batting average and 28th in walks per game (0.68). The Bulldogs’ leadoff hitter, Schlopy has scored 42 of her 64 runs this season after reaching in the leadoff role in any inning, and when leading off, Schlopy is batting .547 with a slugging percentage of 1.113 and an on-base percentage of .692.

The schedule for the USA Softball Women’s National team program will include several international events including the World Cup of Softball presented by KFC in Oklahoma City July 16-20. The World Cup will feature the top four finishers from the 2008 Olympic Games including a Gold medal game rematch between Japan and the United States.
