LSU blows out Georgia baseball 16-0
HOOVER, Ala.—–LSU scored seven runs in the first inning and cruised to a 16-0 win over Georgia in seven innings Saturday in the SEC Tournament. The two teams will play again at approximately 10 p.m. Eastern with the winner advancing to face Vanderbilt in the SEC Tournament championship game on Sunday.
LSU (44-16) scored all seven runs in the first inning with two outs. After the Tigers loaded the bases, an infield single by Sean Ochinko scored Ryan Schimpf then Blake Dean scored when Tyler Hanover was hit with the bases loaded. Jared Mitchell followed with a two-run double to make it 4-0 and a two-run triple by Austin Nola and an RBI single by DJ LeMahieu gave LSU a 7-0 lead.
The game was then halted at 1:58 p.m. CT for four hours 27 minutes and both teams returned to the hotel. Play resumed at 6:25 p.m.
Steve Esmonde entered the game as Georgia’s pitcher after the delay, replacing Alex McRee (4-4) who allowed the seven runs on five hits in 0.2 inning. Esmonde held LSU scoreless until the Tigers scored six runs to go ahead 13-0. The Tigers added three runs in the sixth for the final margin.
Chase Davidson and Lyle Allen made their first career pitching appearances for Georgia (37-21).
Daniel Bradshaw (4-0) earned the win for LSU after allowing just three hits in seven innings.
