The city of Athens can now join the many Georgia Bulldog athletic teams in boasting a top 10 ranking.
Kiplinger’s Personal Finance ranked Athens fifth in its annual list of the 10 Best Cities of 2009, selecting locales offering solid employment opportunities and the talent to create new, well-paying positions.
Diamond Dogs headed to Tallahassee for NCAA Regionals

The Georgia baseball team has been selected as the No. 2 seed in the Tallahassee Regional and the Bulldogs will face the No. 3 seed Ohio State on Friday. Florida State is the No. 1 seed and Marist is the No. 4 seed. The Bulldogs are making their 10th NCAA postseason appearance including the fifth under David Perno, who has taken more Georgia teams to the postseason than any other baseball coach in school history.

COLLEGE STATION, TEXAS – The 10th-ranked Auburn team of Tim Puetz and Alexey Tsyrenov rallied for a 3-6,6-2,6-3 win over the fourth-seeded Bulldog tandem of Nate Schnugg and Jamie Hunt in the quarterfinals of the NCAA Doubles Championships here Saturday. After dropping the first set, the Tiger tandem notched an early service break in the fourth game of the second set and then another one in the eighth game to force a final set.
Women golfers finish 15th at NCAAs

OWINGS MILL, Md. – The No. 15-ranked Georgia women’s golf team wrapped up, appropriately enough, a 15th-place finish at the NCAA Championships at Caves Valley Golf Club on Friday. The Bulldogs carded a 310 in the final round and slipped one position on the leaderboard from the start of the day.
Schnugg falls in NCAA round of 16

COLLEGE STATION, TEXAS – Stanford sophomore Alex Clayton eliminated University of Georgia junior Nate Schnugg 6-4,7-6(4) here Friday to move on to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Championships. Clayton, ranked 21st nationally, notched a service break in the first game of the match and that would be the only one of the first set.
Gullickson’s run ends in singles semifinals

COLLEGE STATION, TEXAS – Miami junior Laura Vallverdu snapped Georgia freshman Chelsey Gullickson’s 16-match winning streak, posting a 6-4,5-7,6-4 victory over her to reach the NCAA Singles final Sunday. Gullickson finishes the season with a 43-10 singles record.

HOOVER, Ala. – Micah Gibbs’ two-run single in the bottom of the fifth broke a 1-1 tie and helped LSU defeat Georgia 3-2, eliminating the Bulldogs from the SEC Tournament Saturday at Regions Park. The game was shortened to seven innings due to rain delays earlier Saturday.

The first ticket to Oklahoma City has been punched by Georgia’s newest bunch of comeback kids.
The No. 6 Georgia (44-10) softball team staged a dramatic comeback for the second straight game to defeat No. 11 Ohio State 7-6 to advance to the Women’s College World Series for the first time in school history.
UGA to hold forum on influenza

The forum will be held at 6 p.m. on Thursday, May 28 in room 175 of the Paul D. Coverdell Center for Biomedical and Health Sciences.
