Georgia track and field at nationals
Georgia track and field has 10 members participating in the NCAA Outdoor Championships this week in Fayetteville, Ark. The Bulldogs sent eight competitors from the No. 20 men’s squad, and two from the women’s team.
Junior Chris Hill will compete in the javelin event, looking to defend his national title. After becoming the first NCAA javelin champion in Georgia history, Hill is undefeated in four meets this season while earning East Regional and SEC titles.
Michelle Thompson will also compete in the javelin, coming in ranked No. 7 on the national performance list with her throw of 177 feet, 10 inches. Thompson, a junior, finished runner-up at the SEC Championships and third at the NCAA East Regionals.
Senior Justin Gaymon will compete in the 400-meter hurdles, where he earned All-American honors the past two seasons, and look to capture his first career national title in the event. Gaymon finished runner-up to South Carolina’s Johnny Dutch in both the SEC Championships and NCAA East Regionals.
Other Bulldog men competing: Nate Rolfe, Branislav Danis and John Freeman will compete in the hammer throw; Israel Machovec (discus); Kevin Dickson (long jump); Adam Sarafian (pole vault).
Georgina Nembhard will compete in the women’s 100-meter and 200-meter dashes.
