Goler named to ESPN.com softball All-America team
Sophomore Alisa Goler has been named an ESPN.com Softball All-American.
The 12-player ESPN.com Softball All-America Team was announced on June 8, and it marks the third All-America honor for Goler. She was also a first-team selection by both the National Fastpitch Coaches Association and Easton Sports, Inc.
A native of Frankfort, Ill., Goler was a top 10 finalist for the USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year Award, and she set several school and Southeastern Conference records in 2009. She set school records for batting average (.455), slugging percentage (.994 – national leader), on-base percentage (.551), home runs (24), extra-base hits (41), runs-batted in (83), total bases (164), walk-to-strikeout ratio (6.00 – 36 walks/6 strikeouts) and “toughest to strikeout” (0.036 = 6 strikeouts/165 at-bats). She became just the second player in school history to lead in all of the “triple crown” categories – batting average, home runs and RBI. Jessi Cerra achieved the feat in both 1997 and 1998.
In the SEC, Goler led the conference in home runs, RBI, total bases, slugging percentage and on-base percentage and was tied for the league lead in doubles (17). Her 83 RBI and .994 slugging percentage established new SEC records while her 24 home runs were one shy of the league record set by Alabama’s Kelly Kretschman in 1998. Goler’s on-base percentage was the seventh-best in league history, and her batting average was eighth-best.
