Staff writer Laurie McGowan highlights four events you can celebrate on the Fourth of July.

The 40 Watt Club is putting a spin on its Fourth of July festivities with a hip-hop showcase of nine great acts. Performers include famous battle rapper Bear, local teen rapper Gus D, a clean lyricist with insane vocal effects Keelan “Fresh” Knox, young and aspiring artist Mikey P, hip-hop’s finest poet Profound Breath, Southern rapper RedKlay and comical rapper and multi-media extraordinaire Richie Rich with Hot Ham and Str8 Jacket. The next two acts are the stars and stripes of the night. Paperboy from local hip hop group The Future Ape Tapes will be performing with Athens MC and hip-hop artist Tommy Valentine, who has finally returned to the spotlight ready to rhyme.
