Chris Colwill has been all over the world representing the United States and the University of Georgia as a competitive diver. He will add another honor to his already impressive résumé at the FINA World Championships.

Colwill has been selected to serve as the flag bearer for Team USA for the aquatics sports (diving, swimming and water polo) at the opening ceremonies for the World Championships on Saturday in Rome, Italy. Colwill also has been chosen as the captain of the men’s diving team that will open preliminary competition on Friday.

“Anytime you represent your country, it’s a real honor,” Colwill said. “I am also humbled to be named our team captain and to have the chance to be the flag bearer. I am very excited about this opportunity.”

Colwill will be joined in the diving well by Bulldogs coach Dan Laak, who will serve as an assistant coach for the United States.

Rising sophomore Allison Schmitt, former Lady Bulldog Mary DeScenza and signee Andrew Gemmell will be swimming for Team USA at the World Championships. Former Bulldog Neil Versfeld and rising sophomore Wendy Trott will represent South Africa and signee Tom Beery will represent Israel in swimming.
