ACC in ‘crime emergency,’ asks for help from citizens
The Athens-Clarke County Police Department sent out a news release Thursday warning the county is in a “crime emergency” and is seeking help from citizens to help stave off the crime wave.
Here is the release:
We are experiencing a large number of burglaries, mostly residential. We need the help of our citizens in apprehending these perpetrators. Most residential burglaries occur during the daylight hours while residents are at work. If you see suspicious persons, vehicles, or activity in your neighborhood please call 911.
Give the communications officer as much identifying information as possible – the exact location of the activity, descriptions of the suspects, and any vehicles involved. Sometimes perpetrators will hide stolen goods in wooded areas or behind other houses. If you see persons walking down the street carrying items, please call 911.
Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of up to $1,000 for information leading to the arrest of the person(s) committing these crimes. Anyone with information is asked to contact Lt. Mark Durham at 706-353-4218 X124 or Lt. Mike McKeel at 706-613-3888, extension 270.
If you wish to remain anonymous, please call the Crime Stoppers Tip Line at 706-613-3342.
