Employee accused of stealing computers, selling them on Craigslist
The University fired an employee after police say he stole at least two computers, advertised them on Craigslist and sold them to unsuspecting buyers.
Benjamin Gehman Adams, 23, who worked at the physical plant and in Enterprise Information Technology Services is accused of stealing an $1,000 Dell Computer from the Chicopee Complex between May and July of this year, as well as an Apple Power Mac G5 desktop computer worth $2,500 from the Boyd Graduate Building in mid-July.
University Police Chief Jimmy Williamson told the Athens Banner-Herald police began to investigate after a man reported he responded to an ad on Craigslist and met Adams in an electronics store parking lot to buy a computer. When he got the machine home, the man found files that made him suspect the equipment belonged to UGA.
