Intramurals give every student a chance to compete

By on August 10, 2009

Of course I wanted to come to Georgia and play a varsity sport. Many of us would have liked to play at the top level possible collegiately. But I just had to understand that there was no place on the basketball court for a 6-foot, 200 pound guy with no leaping ability. Lucky for me there’s intramurals.

Now, if you’re like me, you have a pretty good mind-set that you could have easily competed with the top athletes at Georgia and would have dominated every player in the sport of your choosing. Well here is your chance to prove what you can do.

But intramurals isn’t all about competition and showing off, it’s also about getting with your friends and having a good time. There are the typical varsity sports that are offered such as basketball and softball, but there is a plethora of variety when it comes to intramurals.

For instance, remember in elementary school when you would do your best Peter La Fleur and mow down the other kids in dodgeball? Well here’s your chance to hone those skills again this fall.

Like going to Gwinnett and watching the Georgia Force play in a hockey rink sized football field? Well here’s your chance to experience Arena Football.

Get a team together for flag football.

And remember how you and your family would go out and play wiffle ball during the spring and everybody would laugh and have a good time? Well this time it’s serious, as wiffle ball is waiting on you to take on the knuckle ball in all it’s glory at the intramural fields.

Outdoor Soccer, Tennis Doubles, Team Tennis, Team Golf and Volleyball are all offered this fall as well.

So get you a team together and go out and enjoy the thrill of competition and the fun of doing it with your friends. But don’t forget to bring your student ID card, as it will need to be presented every time you play.
