Regents give OK to tear down fraternity houses

By on August 12, 2009

The Board of Regents approved on Tuesday the tearing down of three fraternity houses along South Lumpkin Street.

Tau Epsilon Phi, Phi Delta Theta and Pi Kappa Alpha will be torn down to make way for a 350,000-square-foot complex for Terry College. But until the money is fully raised for the new Terry building, a parking lot which can park about 200 cars will be in its place. The lot is expected to be completed by the middle of the 2009 fall semester.

The BOR also approved leasing property on River Road to Kappa Sigma and Alpha Epsilon Pi fraternities.

The Kappa Alpha house, which was also located on Lumpkin, was torn down in the summer of 2008. No word yet on what will happen to the Chi Phi house, located near the corner of Lumpkin and Broad streets.
