FOOTBALL NOTEBOOK: While some wear green, Green makes it look easy
- Safety Reshad Jones, defensive tackle Ricardo Crawford, linebacker Darius Dewberry and offensive lineman Josh Davis were in green non-contact jersey’s today. Davis is out for a couple of weeks, but other than that it’s hamstrings holding them down.
- Jones is close to getting back, Bryan Evans told me last night.
- Receiver’s coach Tony Ball, always looking to fine tune his guys, was still preaching leverage to his guys. They worked on getting off the line, and keeping their shoulder pads out in front as they ran upfield. The receivers also worked on keeping defenders from grabbing their inside arm on deep routes. As always, A.J. Green made it look easy.
- Running backs worked on catching the ball out of the backfield, such as wheel routes and passes in the flats.
- Linebackers worked on shedding fullback blocks and then hitting the ball carrier. Mike Gilliard may have impressed in yesterday’s scrimmage with six tackles, but still has work to do. Coach John Jancek yelled out, “You’re too high,” as he went through the drill. Christian Robinson had a great rep in this drill while I was watching.
- Safeties were also working on getting off blocks, hitting the sled in the corner of the practice field.
- Offensive lineman were doing what they do best. Being big and getting after it.
- And just for fun, a team manager had to pump up Shawn Williams helmet with air for individual drills. But said Williams would need another helmet before full anything else.
