Two Georgia soccer freshmen named high school All-Americans
Incoming Georgia freshmen Laura Eddy and Jordan Young have been named to the ESPNRISE.com Spring Girls’ Soccer All-America team, it was announced Friday. Eddy was named to the first team while Young was named honorable mention.
The ESPNRISE.com All-America team was compiled based on input from high school coaches and media all-star teams from around the country.
Eddy earned state player of the year honors after a 34-goal, 18-assist season in which she lead Marist to the AAAA state championship.
“It’s a huge honor just because it fits in with playing at Georgia,” Eddy said. “Year after year you see players here who have won these awards. There are younger players coming up who are very good, so you just try to keep up the level of play.”
Young had 20 goals and 13 assists in helping lead Salem High School to the 2009 8AAAA Region Championship.
“It is an honor to be recognized among so many great players,” Young said. “I’m excited about the upcoming season in Athens. I’ve always wanted to play for Georgia, and it is a dream come true.”
Eddy, Young and the 18th-ranked Bulldogs open the 2009 season Aug. 21 at home against Kennesaw State.
