3-minute interview: Shaun Chapas
Junior Shaun Chapas will be the starting fullback for Georgia football in 2009. The Red & Black caught up with him after
practice Tuesday to talk about dinosaurs, supermodels and if he’ll ever finally score a rushing touchdown.
Question: You backed up now-graduated Georgia fullback Brannan Southerland for a long time. Any deep dark secrets he wouldn’t want us to know about him?
He’s got a birthmark on the top of his head … And he ate fried food for every meal, three times a day. He’d have Chick-Fil-A in the morning, then like Raisin’ Canes for lunch, then KFC or Burger King for dinner. But he was still strong as hell. I don’t know how he did it.
Question: Who was your favorite Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle growing up?
The one with the sword. Was it Leonardo? Yeah, it was Leonardo. The sword was the best weapon.
Question: Favorite dinosaur?
Tyrannosaurus rex. He was the baddest in the forest. Tyrannosaurus rex for sure.
Question: [Defensive tackle] Jeff Owens has a blog called “The Real Deal.” What would you call your blog if you had one?
Oh man, I don’t know. I’d have to call it like “Chap Daddy Dollas” or something weird like that.
Question: [Atlanta Brave] Chipper Jones went to your high school. You ever run into him down there?
I ran into him one time when I was young, I think I was in middle school. He comes back, and they have pictures of him and stuff hanging up, but I only ran into him once since I went to school there.
Question: Are there any female Georgia athletes you’d like to date?
I’m just going to say no. I’m sure there are. I just haven’t met her yet.
Question: Any famous female athletes then?
[Supermodel] Brooklyn Decker’s not an athlete, but she could be one because she’s married to one [tennis player Andy Roddick]. If she was, I would go out with her.
Question: Bigfoot or the Loch Ness monster?
Bigfoot. Because he’s the baddest in the forest now. It was tyrannosaurus rex, but now it’s Bigfoot.
Question: How long is it going to take you to score a rushing touchdown?
[Laughing] Hopefully not long. I don’t know. We’ll see.
