Georgia volleyball falls to Tech in season opener

Georgia rallied from a 2-0 deficit to force a decisive and closely contested fifth set in the season-opening match against Georgia Tech Friday evening, but the Yellow Jackets held on to win, 3-2, in front of a sold-out, capacity crowd of 2,000 at O’Keefe Gymnasium in the Georgia Tech Regency Suites Invitational.
Georgia soccer blanks No. 17 Minnesota, 2-0
Despite less than perfect field conditions, the 16th ranked Bulldogs soccer team made a big statement Friday night, defeating the visiting 17th ranked Minnesota Golden Gophers 2-0 at the Turner Soccer Complex.
The first half of the contest played to a 0-0 stalemate, as both teams struggled to produce many scoring opportunities in the wet conditions after storms left the area just hours before game time.
Volleyball to face rival Yellow Jackets in season opener

Entering last season, volleyball head coach Joel McCartney needed just one win to reach a giant milestone: 300 wins. After the Bulldogs faced Georgia Tech in the season opener, he had to wait one more match to get it.
It’s something that McCartney has thought about for 365 days now.
Freshmen play right away
The 2009 Georgia soccer team may be rich in battle-tested upperclassmen, but if the Bulldogs plan on lifting a Southeastern Conference Championship trophy in Orange Beach, Ala. this November, it may be the freshmen who make the real difference.
This freshman group isn’t your typical band of newcomers, having already earned enough championship hardware at the youth level to fill the length of a Home Depot aisle.
