Daniel Francis Doyle goes solo, gains acclaim and fan-base

Irony is no stranger to Daniel Francis Doyle. He’s a man who places an audience’s needs and wants above his own. He’s a master at guitar looping yet shuns the use of technology in music. Even his name operates as an ironic device.

Though “Daniel Francis Doyle” is real and not a contrived stage name, Doyle uses his full name during performances because it sounds like a quiet, calm, introverted singer-songwriter.

When first starting out, musicians often approach life with rose-colored glasses and a world view based on pursuing their passions. As this somewhat idealistic group gets older however, they tend to become less satisfied with fast food meals in the back of an 18-passenger van and more preoccupied with desires for a family and material things.

Georgia’s record – 3-1 – is remarkable considering its turnover ratio, a statistic coach Mark Richt has repeatedly lamented for its importance.

The Bulldogs rank 115 out 120 FBS schools in the nation, compiling 12 turnovers while forcing only three.

With LSU, known for winning turnover battles, cruising into Athens this weekend, focus in practice centers on ball security.

Iranian nuclear program should be taken seriously The Red & Black’s Monday editorial cartoon juxtaposing a seemingly miniscule Iranian nuclear facility with an arsenal of U.S. bombs makes light of an increasingly volatile international conflict. Over the past week, Iran revealed the existence of a secret nuclear facility built into a mountain and, following President Obama’s renewed calls for engagement, proceeded to fire off a barrage of medium-range missiles.

Time to change law New Georgia law to allow underage adults serve alcohol should bring change One of the biggest issues the University faces is underage drinking. Cramming over 33,000 young adults – many of whom have only just graduated high school and are experimenting with new freedoms – into such a concentrated area is a perfect breeding ground for illicit activities.

When our president does something stupid, I am often the first person to speak out against him. But when he does something great – like call Kanye West a “jackass” or hold a “beer summit” – I’m also the first to give him props. And I think that his mission to bring the 2016 Olympic Summer Games to Chicago is gold medal-worthy as well.

Ah, the signs: “Jesus was a socialist,” or “Fight the man’s healthcare system” on one side. On the other, “How about you pay for your healthcare and I’ll pay for mine?” Add dozens of “NOT TRUE!” and “YOU LIE!” signs to the screaming and booing of the audience, and you’ve got the Athens Town Hall meeting Monday night on health care reform.
