Due to a continuous series of injuries, running back Caleb King will not be on the 72-man roster traveling to Oklahoma State on Saturday.

Georgia’s travel roster was (more or less) finalized Wednesday, and tailback Caleb King will not be one of the 72 Bulldogs making the trip to Oklahoma State for Saturday’s game.

Head coach Mark Richt would not reveal the entire travel roster, but King’s absence was the most notable. Still, he was fairly confident King would be ready for next week’s contest against South Carolina.

“I saw him today; he was running,” Richt said. “I wouldn’t say it was full speed, but it was probably three-quarters speed. I would think he’d be ready for that game.”

Defensive end Kiante Tripp will also not be making the trip (due to a “stinger that just isn’t coming along”), meaning only five ends will be available in rotation in Stillwater.

“[In addition to starters Demarcus Dobbs and Rod Battle] we have the two Washingtons [Marcus and Cornelius], and we are not afraid to play [freshman Montez Robinson] if we have to,” Richt said. “You don’t go much deeper than a five-man rotation.”

Dobbs said Wednesday he wasn’t sure whether he or Battle would get the most reps against the Cowboys’ All-American left tackle Russell Okung.

More than half of Georgia’s 19 freshmen will be making the trip to Stillwater. Those include: quarterbacks Aaron Murray and Zach Mettenberger, tailback Washaun Ealey, receivers Marlon Brown and Rantavious Wooten, tight ends Orson Charles and Arthur Lynch, Robinson, defensive tackle Abry Jones and defensive back Branden Smith.

Linebacker Dewberry excited about starting role

In a mild surprise, senior linebacker Darius Dewberry was named Georgia’s starting strongside linebacker when the Bulldogs depth chart was released Tuesday.

After missing spring practice, Dewberry has been battling back from a number of injuries all falls, and, until Akeem Dent developed a nagging hamstring a few weeks ago, Dent was presumed to be the starter.

“It feels pretty good,” Dewberry said. “We’re going to keep a rotation, so I’m not really looking at it any different.”

Dewberry appeared in just seven games last season, recording three tackles and an interception, but he did start 13 games in 2007.

Change in practice schedule

Richt also announced, Wednesday, a change in the way the Bulldogs will practice each week.

Essentially, they will switch Monday’s practice to Sunday, then take their NCAA-mandated day off on Monday.

Sunday’s practice, the day after a game, would consist of meetings, a weightlifting session, team conditioning, a short 40-minute practice and a staff meeting.

“It’s kind of hard to talk to [players] about a game when it happened two days ago,” Richt said. “So we’re hoping we can use Sunday to kind of put the game away, watching a little film of the game prior and touching on a few little things … And then it gives the staff the rest of Sunday evening, all day Monday and then half a day Tuesday before they have to present a plan.”
