UGA volleyball team redeems Friday loss

For the second time in two weeks, the Georgia volleyball team won consecutive matches in order to salvage a Friday night loss.
Just as the Bulldogs did last weekend in Atlanta, Georgia (4-2) won two matches on Saturday to make up for another disappointing start to the weekend.
Following Friday night’s loss to the Duke Blue Devils, the Bulldogs defeated Tennessee State, 3-1, and South Alabama, 3-0, to get their first two home wins of the 2009 season.
In the Tennessee State match, junior Erika Clark notched 15 kills and a .625 hitting percentage to lead Georgia to its first of two Saturday victories.
After losing the first set of the match, Georgia stormed back to take the final three sets behind sophomore setter and team captain Kathleen Gates’ 48 assists.
Following its win over Tennessee State, Georgia swept an overmatched South Alabama team with set scores of 25-21, 25-16 and 25-12.
Junior middle hitter Valentina Gonzalez and sophomore libero Carla Tietz were named to the All-Tournament Team after their solid performances over the weekend.
Georgia will stay at home to take on Presbyterian College tonight with the first serve scheduled for 7 p.m at the Ramsey Center.
