No reason for Cox to start
In response to Fletcher Page’s column, “Quarterback has earned a free pass from fans,” fair-weather fans give up on their team’s season and allow a talented young quarterback to sit behind his equally inexperienced, less-talented senior without protest.
In contrast, other dedicated fans and I are upset with the current quarterback situation because we want to salvage this season and win games in the SEC. What I don’t understand is why you and other [Joe] Cox loyalists are clinging to him as if he will magically become more talented overnight.
You excuse his poor play because it’s only his second start. Instead, why not play highly recruited freshmen who have essentially the same in-game experience as Cox but have the upside of a few good years in the program ahead of them. Joe is inexperienced and is about to graduate.
This is a terrible combination when compared to [freshman Aaron]Murray’s potential to win games this season and prepare a quarterback for the next season.
