First times with Orson Charles and Arthur Lynch

By on September 11, 2009

Freshmen tight ends Orson Charles and Arthur Lynch both saw action Saturday against Oklahoma State. Both are dynamic players and are looking to put Georgia tight ends back on the map. F&G caught up with both to assess their first on-field experiences.

GETTING ON THE FIELD:

CHARLES: Yeah, it was a dream come true. I was very nervous every time my number was called. I was just repeating to myself to make sure I did everything right. I was just repeating what I was supposed to do.

LYNCH: It was exciting, it was definitely a good experience. It would have been nice to win the game. It helps a lot when you go against the defensive ends here at Georgia everyday. You get a good feel for what the talent feels like.

ON BEING OVERWHELMED:

CHARLES: Yeah, I said this to a lot of my teammates-I felt like Barack Obama. We didn’t go through the airport; we went right to the airplane. It was just a good experience, just something I can tell people back home, my mom and people like that.

LYNCH: I felt like I fit in. I followed Aron [White] around; he was my roommate on the trip. It was good to have him to know where to be and when to be there. I think it will be more of a routine next time but it was definitely a good experience. Like I said I wish we could have won.

HAPPY FOR EACH OTHER:

CHARLES: It was very cool and we talked about that when I was making my decision to come here. We said we could turn this thing around. We talked about the path of tight ends from here in the [NFL]. Through camp we were lifting each other up, making each other work harder.

LYNCH: I think it’s a great experience. Orson and I, we’re two who get to be on the field making an impact. . He’s a great receiver-he’s doing his thing to get on the field and I’m proud of him. At the same time we’re competition, but we’re teammates so we help each other out. We’re blessed to be here.

ON SEC DEBUTS:

CHARLES: I look forward to all these games. I looked forward to last week and I look forward to this week because I felt I let my team down last week and this is a rebound game. They say you can judge a team by how it gets back up. Everybody falls but the great ones get back up. Hopefully we will. I’ve heard a lot about South Carolina, and there have been a lot of close games. I have film on them right now and I’m about to go look at it.

LYNCH: I’m just ready to play in the SEC. I know if I can play in the SEC I can play anywhere and I can play on the next level. So that’s my goal and I’m just trying to keep things in perspective. I don’t try to get too pumped up. I think people that do that get ahead of themselves and can’t fully prepare for the game. Just try to help myself out and if I only go in there for eight plays, or 20 plays or 60 plays I’ll go hard every play. If I go hard every play I can’t say I did anything bad.
