Bulldog soccer stays undefeated

The No. 15 Georgia Soccer team went on the road Sunday for the first time this season and came home with a hard-fought 3-2 win over UNC-Charlotte.
The Bulldogs (6-0-1) faced a 49ers (4-2) team that had only lost on their home field one other time since the 2007 season, but Georgia had a couple of its younger stars step up to put the Dogs over the top.
With the game tied at 1-1 just before intermission, freshman midfielder Rebekah Perry booted a ball over the 49ers goalkeeper for her second goal of the season, giving the Bulldogs a 2-1 lead heading into the break.
In the 63rd minute of action the Bulldogs would tack on another goal, this time by freshman midfielder Susannah Dennis who netted her first goal of the season, giving Georgia breathing room at 3-1.
Lucky for the Bulldogs they got that goal as the 49ers answered right back with a goal of their own at the 66-minute mark, but the Bulldogs would limit Charlotte’s chances the rest of the game and hold on for the win.
Senior goalkeeper Michelle Betos made three saves for the Bulldogs in the match, but gave up more than one goal in a game for only the first time since last October when Georgia fell to Louisiana State 2-1.
Junior forward Kelli Corless gave Georgia a 1-0 lead to begin the scoring at the 15-minute mark.
For the weekend, the Bulldogs were a perfect 2-0 after defeating their in-state rival Georgia State Friday night.
The Bulldogs defeated the Panthers 3-0, earning Betos her fifth shutout of the season, and Georgia its best start since 2005 when it started 6-0.
Georgia got goals from sophomores Jamie Pollock and Ashley Miller and another from senior Carrie Patterson. Miller and Patterson are now tied for the team lead with five goals apiece this season.
The Bulldogs will get back into action Friday night when they head to Clemson.
