President’s speech wasted time of ‘millions’ of students
President Barack Obama’s Wednesday speech may have contained no political content, but I object to the President wasting the time of millions of American students.
The President reiterated platitudes students have heard from parents, teachers, and community leaders instead of allowing pupils to actually spend their time engaging in learning.
The text of the speech failed to serve the wide age range of public schoolchildren, as it seemed too long and convoluted to hold the attention of younger students and too patronizing and simplistic to appeal to elder students.
A single absence to a class results in a loss of academic potential, and President Obama effectively marked America’s students absent by busying them with a fruitless activity that did not contribute to any larger goal or purpose.
