pleasure reading: Jennifer Johnson is Sick of Being Single

JENNIFER JOHNSON IS SICK OF BEING SINGLE
Heather McElhatton

“Jennifer Johnson Is Sick of Being Single” – well, Jennifer, you and the rest of the single female world.

However, the title of this novel is misleading in relation to the context. I expected to find a cutesy, girly comedy about the trials of life and love, but instead I found a wickedly witty novel full of dark humor and the many misfortunes of the title character.

Jennifer Johnson is an average girl. She has an average job, an average family – an average life.

She so desires to find love and a relationship that she puts herself through hell and back on a series of blind dates based off of an Internet matchmaking site that leaves Jennifer in many embarrassing situations.

Jennifer’s luck begins to change when her hunky employer Brad shows an interest in her, but her happy ending is far from sight as she encounters many problems with her dream man.

Heather McElhatton creates a world of dark humor where life isn’t fair and nothing is what it seems.

This book was an incredibly fast and entertaining read, with the plot flying from page to page.

The chapters are full of graphic images and descriptions that provide endless laugh-out-loud comedy throughout.

The only disappointing aspect of the novel was the ending. While it was fitting and appropriate, the conclusion was not at all what I expected and the novel felt incomplete. As I closed the book cover I was disappointed, but one thing is for sure: Jennifer Johnson got what she deserved.

VERDICT: All in all, “Jennifer Johnson is Sick of Being Single” is a witty and hilarious dark chick-lit comedy that, for the most part, will entertain its reader from cover to cover.
