Georgia goalkeeper Michelle Betos will look to keep the No. 8 Bulldogs undefeated as they travel up the road to Clemson tonight.

The undefeated Georgia soccer team takes their show on the road for the second match of a six-game road trip tonight, as they square off at Riggs Field in Clemson, S.C.

But for the first time in school history, the Bulldogs (6-0-1) will carry down the road to Clemson (2-4-0) a top-10 national ranking, as the Bulldogs were tabbed the eighth best squad in the country this week in the latest Soccer America poll.

“It’s about our players, and I’m just made up for, not only the team as a whole, but for our seniors,” said Georgia head coach Patrick Baker. “Now the challenge is to wear that target. You know, we’ve worn it a couple of times but probably not as high as it potentially could be.”

The Bulldogs will look to stay one of only 20 unbeaten teams left in the country out of over 300 universities that play soccer. Only South Carolina out of the Southeastern Conference remains unbeaten at 6-0-0.

Even with underdogs champing at the bit for a chance to take down the big “Dogs,” the team heads into tonight’s match with an air of confidence.

“Being number eight in the country, people are going to want to come at us,” said senior goalkeeper Michelle Betos. “Especially the local teams, the Clemsons, the Georgia States, they want to prove that Georgia’s not all it’s cracked up to be.”

Though most teams might be concerned about embarking on a six-game road trip, the Bulldogs in the past have enjoyed considerable success away from the friendly confines of the UGA Soccer Stadium.

Since Baker took over the program in 2005, the Bulldogs have posted an impressive 17-11-3 record away from Athens and have lost just one conference road match in the past two seasons, a 2-1 overtime loss at Florida last year.

“We know that we’ve got a long stretch of away games, but you know when you get on the bus and get onto their field that you’ve got the same job to do whether you’re at home or not,” said sophomore defender Bailey Powell.

Adding to the Bulldog’s swagger is the knowledge of the feat they pulled off last Sunday, defeating a Charlotte team 3-2 that was in the second round of the NCAA tournament a year ago to pick up their first road victory of the 2009 campaign thus far.

“You know [Charlotte's] only lost twice at home in the last two years, and they’ve actually only lost four times in the last four years at home, so there’s been a lot of good teams that have come and gone and haven’t gotten a result there,” Baker said.

“There were some players that did a great job in the first half, there were others who did a great job in the second half, and it was a true team win.”

As for the team’s plan going into tonight’s match: stick to what’s been working.

“It’s a big game; there are a lot of Georgia kids on that [Clemson] team and I think that our mindset is to just play our game like we’ve been doing and hopefully add another win,” Betos said.
