EITS hosts planning forum

Do you have a suggestion for improving technology on campus?

The people at Enterprise Information Technology Services want to hear it.

Today at 1 p.m. in the Georgia Center Masters Hall, the Office of the Chief Information Officer and EITS will hold its compact planning session for fiscal year 2010.

“Compact planning is a process that we use in EITS to just go out to the UGA campus and find out about what it needs on campus,” said Lynn Latimer, associate director for IT planning and decision support. “It’s really part of our planning process, so we can know what to plan for in the future related to technology and the needs on campus.”

Latimer said it’s important for students to come to the session so EITS can know what their specific technological needs.

“I know that several of the inputs we’ve gotten in the last couple of years have actually gone through the student technology fee process,” she said. “It’s very important that we hear from students about what we should be planning for.”

Latimer said several topics related to technology will be discussed – from the student perspective, the academic and faculty perspective and the researcher perspective. She said the needs of the University’s extended campuses will also be addressed during the two-hour session.

In past years the compact planning session has provided EITS with ways to improve student information systems, as well as the technological needs in the Miller Learning Center and in residence halls on campus.

“It’s very comprehensive,” she said. “We try to focus on discussing all of the topics that might be relevant to different groups on the UGA campus.”
