The Georgia cross country squads hosted the Georgia Cross Country Invitational Saturday at its home track in Bishop, and proved to be rude hosts.

The Bulldogs handled the competition, winning the dual meets in easy fashion, though doing it on a very muddy course due to all the rain the past week.

On the women’s side, Georgia sophomore Kristie Krueger won her second race of the season, crossing the finish line in just under 19 minutes for the 5K race.

Her teammates finished in the next seven spots, with senior Bridget Lyons finishing second with a time of 19:16.51.

On the men’s side, senior captain Bejan Abtahi also won his second meet in a row, handled the competition in the 8K race with a time of 26:43.30.

But Senior Dustin Tetley of the Bulldogs was hot on Abtahi’s tail, finishing second, just two seconds behind the top spo

For the rest of the Bulldogs’ mens squad, 10 of the top 11 finishers were all wearing red and black as they crossed the line.

The cross country teams will next see some of the nation’s best competition when they head to South Bend, Indiana for the Notre Dame Invitational Oct. 2.

Equestrian notches

season’s first win

The defending national champion Georgia equestrian team salvaged a loss to Texas Christian Saturday afternoon with an impressive victory in a Hunt-Seat only competition Sunday against Southern Methodist.

With its loss Friday, it marked the first time in six seasons that the Bulldogs had dropped a match at home in a dual-match format.

But sophomores Emma Lipman and Michelle Morris had two winning rides apiece to pace the Bulldogs over SMU.

Georgia will be back in action Oct. 17 against Texas A&M at home.
