Richard Samuel’s spot in jeopardy

Richard Samuel must stop fumbling the ball – or he’ll no longer be referenced as Georgia’s starting tailback.
Samuel fumbled twice against Arkansas, recovering one, but losing the other.
“I’m not too thrilled about it,” said coach Mark Richt. “I don’t know if we are ready to move him from the No. 1 position, but I would say if that kind of thing continued, we’d have to really consider whether or not he should start for us.
Samuel fumbled his first career carry against Georgia Southern in 2008. He had a crucial fumble on a kickoff in the loss against Georgia Tech. Samuel worked on ball control in the offseason.
But the ball is still finding the ground when Samuel carries.
“I’ve definitely got to be more focused when I’m carrying the ball,” Samuel said.
With Caleb King returning, and playing well against Arkansas (average of 5.4 yards-per-carry on 11 attempts,) Samuel’s job is at risk.
“You can’t have two a game, that’s for sure,” Richt said, “and continue to play the kind of football you need to win.”
Richt joins in the fight to keep campus beautiful
The trashy ways of North Campus on game days are headed for a makeover. University President Michael Adams addressed the mess last week, and Richt is joining the effort.
Richt said fans should take pride in the University, advising those tailgating to take care of their trash and help others.
“It’s one of the most beautiful campuses in the country and we want to keep it that way,” he said. “We are Georgia and I am encouraging everyone to put the trash where it belongs and if you have to bring some baggage, bag your trash. Let’s do that, because it is a beautiful place and we don’t want it to look like the city dump after a ballgame.”
Dogs look to get Dawg Walk right this week
Many fans arrived for the Dawg Walk – players entering the stadium – for Georgia’s home opener Sept. 12 against South Carolina at 5 p.m.
A chance to high-five Richt and favorite players, hear the band and scope cheerleaders.
The problem?
The Bulldogs arrived ten minutes fast, walking through the lucky crowd of those who arrived early.
“We jumped the gun, and there were probably fans getting ready to go to the Dawg Walk and realized that the players had already come through,” Richt said. “We need to do a better job of that, so we are definitely going to do a better job in that regard.”
The Dawg Walk will take place at 5 p.m. Saturday next to the Tate Student Center, with the game slated for 7 p.m.
