Trash your trash
Univ. groups are stepping up to help prevent excessive littering on campus
It’s here again: an evening home game full of rivalry, excitement and, of course, tailgating.
After the South Carolina game and 70 tons of trash later, campus groups have taken a serious step up to prevent that from happening again this weekend.
University President Michael Adams is encouraging fans to do their part, according to the page 1 story, but the University will do its part as well.
What’s new?
12,000 trash bags distributed in parking lots and around campus.
Fifty extra port-a-potties are being added around campus.
Three large roll-off Dumpsters on North Campus – in the bus bay on Jackson Street, in the main library parking lot and near New College.
Who’s helping?
Volunteers from the Fellowship of Christian Athletes are handing out trash bags.
Members of the Alpha Kappa Psi co-ed business fraternity are handing out bags.
Increased numbers of UGA Gameday Recycles members are handing out recycling bags.
American Stadium Services will sweep the tailgating area during the first quarter to start clean-up.
Get the picture? You’d have to intentionally not throw away trash to miss the increased efforts to clean up Saturday.
Several other groups have set up the possibility for success – so let’s finish the drill.
Be proud of your campus, and show the fans from Arizona State how the South tailgates – responsibly and respectfully.
