GAME REWIND: UGA vs. ASU

By on September 28, 2009

PLAYER OF THE GAME:
A.J. Green, Georgia wide receiver
Simply put, Green dominated this game.
The sophomore put up eight catches for 174 yards and a touchdown and made plays when it counted.
After blocking a potentially game-winning Arizona State field goal attempt, Green proceeded to reel in a third-down, 36-yard bomb from quarterback Joe Cox on the subsequent drive, setting the Bulldogs up for Blair Walsh’s game-winning field goal as time expired.

KEY DECISION:
Putting Green in with the field goal block unit
After the game, head coach Mark Richt said there had been some hesitance on wide receivers coach Tony Ball’s behalf to put his star receiver in on special teams.
The idea, first proposed by linebackers coach John Jancek, came to fruition though, and Green made Jancek look like a genius.

KEY MOMENT:
Blair Walsh’s game-winning field goal
Sophomore Blair Walsh is still perfect on the season, and was not intimidated by the first game-winning opportunity of his Georgia career.
After quarterback Joe Cox took a knee directly between the hash marks, Walsh drilled the deciding points between the goal posts as time expired.

QUOTE OF THE GAME:
“It was crazy. I just went up as hard as I could, and I felt it on my elbow and I looked up and the ball was going down. Like, I can’t believe I blocked it.”
